People relate prophecy more to foretelling than to God’s word. According to God's word, foretelling is a very minor part of prophecy. Prophecy in the age of law was mainly ‘the word of God which came to’ God’s servants and was spoken to His people to restore them from their fallen situation. Now all God’s people can receive God’s speaking (whenever they read the scripture with prayer) through the anointing which teaches all things and speak the word in the meeting for the encouragement, comfort and conviction of others.
We read in Numbers chapter 11 about seventy elders prophesying when God’s Spirit rested upon them. Also two other men, Eldad and Medad, upon whom the Spirit rested, also prophesied in the camp. When Joshua asked Moses to restrain them, Moses said, “Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the LORD’S people were prophets, that the LORD would put His Spirit upon them!”. It is God’s desire that all His people should prophesy.
So God promised through prophet Joel, ‘In the last days, it shall be, God declares, I will pour out My Spirit on ‘all flesh’ and your sons and daughters shall prophesy.’ That promise was first fulfilled when the Holy Spirit was poured out on the day of Pentecost after the resurrection, ascension and glorification of the Lord Jesus. God’s word has power to heal our spirit, soul and body. God is looking for people who will speak His word they received in their spirits. We read in 1 Corinthians 14:31 ,’ For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be exhorted. God wants His people to enter into the habit of ‘proper’ reading and study of His word and receiving his speaking in their spirits.
The true revival starts when a child of God receives God’s speaking when he reads the word of God. Our Saturday morning meeting is open to all God’s children who receive God’s speaking regularly. When the believer speaks in spirit in a meeting the word of God that he received, that is the prophecy which edifies both the speaker and the listeners. The gifts we received from God, be it prophecy, speaking in tongues or knowledge or revelation or teaching, needs to be continuously exercised for the building up of the body of Christ.
